The Florida Department of Health Announces the Florida Health Practitioner Oral Healthcare Workforce Report
The Florida Department of Health (DOH), under the leadership of State Surgeon General Ana M. Viamonte Ros, M.D., M.P.H., announces the release of the Florida Health Practitioner Oral Healthcare Workforce Ad Hoc Advisory Committee Report. Because oral health is essential to general health and well-being, the lack of basic oral health care for many Floridians contributes to the number of people experiencing poor general health. Department of Health Annouces New Health Care Clinic Establishment Permit
The Florida Department of Health reminds establishments purchasing prescription drugs about the new health care clinic establishment permit requirement beginning January 1, 2009. The permit authorizes the purchase of prescription drugs by a professional corporation or professional limited liability company. It also authorizes the purchase of prescription drugs by corporations that employ veterinarians. Health care practitioners or veterinarians who are purchasing prescription drugs under their professional license number are not required to obtain the permit. The Florida Department of Health Announces First Physician Workforce Annual Report
The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is pleased to release the first Physician Workforce Annual Report, an accurate depiction of the active, licensed physician workforce in the state by specialty. Over time, these data will be used to pinpoint specialty areas by geographic location and hours per week, account for generational and gender factors, and assess reasons for changes in scope of practice. Family Preparedness Guide

Department of Health Stresses Importance of Hygiene
The Florida Department of Health (DOH) today reminds Floridians of the importance of proper hygiene to prevent the spread of MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), the common cold, influenza and a number of other infections. Research published this week in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) estimates that there are more than 94,000 MRSA infections and 18,000 deaths in the USA each year. MRSA no longer appears solely in healthcare settings, it is becoming more common in the community since its appearance in the 1960’s.  (10/19/07)
